Does anyone have any experience with heavy duty (probably 'flail' or 'hammer' type, as opposed to 'rotary') brush cutters that have 4" or so capacity? I'm looking for something about 5' wide that I can back into stuff with, not drive over with the tractor first and tear the tractor up. I know the PTO hp on my Kubota L4310HST is a little light for such implements, but I've seen some advertised for a minium of 40 hp and that's real close, especially since, with the HST, I can easily control my speed infinitely. I'm interested in one because I have a lot of woods to clean up, and I want to clear the small saplings and brush, without going the chainsaw and weedeater approach, if possible.

Mark, There was at one time a company that put out what was call a Tree Hog. You could back up into up to a 6" tree and cut it down. I don't know if they are still around. It was a lot like a bush hog, but really heavy and it had 4 short heavy blades. The rear of the unit was cut away and had a spring loaded bar that you had to push in to cut. The unit also had a cage over it to protect the operator. ....
